Overview of the Hair Improvement Protocol, including how treatment works and how clinicians determine whether it is appropriate.

Updated this week

This article applies specifically to the Hair Improvement treatment plan.

Requirements may differ for other Maximus programs.
โ€‹
The Maximus Hair Improvement Protocol uses personalized prescription treatments to support thicker, fuller hair.

The protocol targets common causes of hair thinning using topical and/or oral medications selected by your clinician based on your goals, symptoms, and medical history.

Treatments That May Be Used in This Protocol

Your clinician may recommend a personalized plan that includes:

Topical treatments, such as compounded formulas that may include:

  • dutasteride

  • minoxidil

  • tretinoin

  • fexofenadine

Oral medications, such as:

  • oral minoxidil

  • other prescriptions as clinically appropriate

Combination therapy may be used when additional support is beneficial.

What the Protocol Is

Hair thinning often results from multiple factors, including:

  • hormonal sensitivity (DHT)

  • follicle miniaturization

  • inflammation

  • changes in the hair growth cycle

This protocol is designed to address these underlying contributors through targeted treatment.

How It Works (High Level)

The protocol supports hair growth by:

  • reducing the impact of DHT on hair follicles

  • supporting follicle activity and strand thickness

  • improving blood flow and nutrient delivery to the scalp

  • supporting scalp health and reducing inflammation

These effects build gradually and vary between individuals.

Who Itโ€™s For

The Hair Improvement Protocol may be appropriate for individuals experiencing:

  • early hair thinning

  • widening part or reduced density

  • thinning at the crown

  • gradual recession at the hairline

  • post-transplant maintenance needs

Eligibility is determined by your clinician based on your health history, photos, and goals.

Who It May Not Be For

Some individuals may be better suited to alternative medical or dermatologic treatments depending on the cause of hair loss.

Your clinician will determine the most appropriate approach.

What to Expect Over Time

Hair growth is a gradual biological process.

Many individuals may notice:

  • reduced shedding in the early phase

  • subtle thickening or new growth over several months

  • improved density and coverage over longer periods

Progress varies, and photos over time are often the most helpful way to track changes.

Treatment Formats

Your treatment plan may include:

  • topical treatments applied directly to the scalp

  • oral medications when clinically appropriate

  • combination therapy for additional support

Your plan is personalized and may change over time based on your response.

Monitoring and Follow-Up

Your clinician may request:

  • periodic progress photos

  • follow-up assessments

These help evaluate your response and guide any adjustments to your treatment plan.
