This article covers how to switch between Oral Testosterone, Topical Testosterone (cream or gel), Injectable Testosterone, and Enclomiphene Only — including what's required, what it costs, and when changes take effect.
How testosterone subscription changes work
Most changes are made through your Maximus dashboard under Settings → Manage Subscription. Some changes require approval from your prescribing clinician — message them directly through the dashboard.
A few rules apply to every testosterone subscription change:
Plan changes take effect at your next refill. Submit your request before your refill date to avoid delays.
Switching between testosterone formulations requires clinician approval. This includes switching between oral, topical, and injectable, or moving to Enclomiphene Only.
Mid-cycle switches usually cost more than end-of-cycle switches. If a new plan is more expensive than your current one, an upcharge applies for the remainder of the current billing period. Waiting until your current cycle ends avoids the upcharge.
Switching TO Topical Testosterone (cream or gel)
What's required:
New video evaluation ($20)
Lab work (billed separately by a third-party lab — not included in your subscription)
Clinician approval
Cost: Topical Testosterone is priced differently than other formulations. The $20 video evaluation and the third-party lab fee are charged separately.
When it takes effect: Adding Topical Testosterone mid-cycle is allowed, but an upcharge applies for the remainder of the billing period. To avoid the upcharge, wait until your current cycle ends. Plan changes apply at your next refill.
How to start:
Go to Settings → Manage Subscription in your dashboard.
Select Topical Testosterone (or Topical Testosterone Only).
Choose your billing frequency (monthly, quarterly, or yearly).
Confirm — your clinician reviews and approves the change.
Switching TO Oral Testosterone
What's required:
Recent lab results — your clinician reviews these before approving
Clinician approval
Cost: Oral Testosterone is bundled with Building Blocks supplements as a single subscription. Building Blocks cannot be paused or removed separately while you're on Oral Testosterone (see the Building Blocks note below).
When it takes effect: Once your clinician approves, the change applies at your next refill.
How to start:
Message your prescribing clinician through your dashboard.
Provide or confirm any labs they request.
Once approved, your subscription updates automatically.
Switching TO Injectable Testosterone
What's required:
Video evaluation
Baseline lab work
Driver's license verification (required because injectable testosterone is a controlled substance)
Clinician approval
Cost: Pricing varies based on dose and frequency. Lab work is billed separately.
When it takes effect: At your next refill, once your clinician approves and labs and verification are complete.
How to start: Message your prescribing clinician through your dashboard to request the change. They'll guide you through scheduling the video evaluation, baseline labs, and any documentation.
Switching TO Enclomiphene Only
What's required:
Clinician approval (typically straightforward when stepping down from a testosterone formulation)
Cost: $199.99 per month.
When it takes effect: Update your subscription through Settings → Manage Subscription. Your existing testosterone subscription charges stop and the Enclomiphene Only plan begins at your next refill.
A note on Building Blocks
Building Blocks supplements are bundled into Oral Testosterone subscriptions and cannot be paused or removed separately while you're on Oral Testosterone. If you switch from Oral Testosterone to a different formulation — Topical, Injectable, or Enclomiphene Only — Building Blocks is no longer automatically included.
If you want to keep Building Blocks while switching the testosterone formulation, mention this when you request the change. Your clinician or support can confirm whether and how to add Building Blocks back to your new plan.
FAQ
Can I switch to a different testosterone formulation immediately? Clinician approval and any required labs typically take a few business days. The subscription change itself takes effect at your next refill, not the moment your clinician approves.
Will I still be charged for my current plan if I switch mid-cycle? Yes. You're charged an upcharge for the remainder of the billing period (the price difference between your current and new plan). At your next refill, you're charged the full new-plan rate.
What if I want to add a medication instead of switching? Adding a medication (for example, adding Topical Testosterone alongside Oral Testosterone) follows the same process — clinician approval, any required labs, subscription update. Mid-cycle adds may incur an upcharge.
Can I switch back later? Yes. Each switch requires another clinician review and may require new labs depending on how much time has passed since your last evaluation.
When does a plan change take effect? At your next refill. Submit your request before your refill date to avoid delays.
Still have questions? For clinical questions about which testosterone formulation is right for you, message your prescribing clinician through your Maximus dashboard. For account or billing questions about a specific switch, contact Maximus support.
