TRT lab requirements

TRT requires specific labs to ensure treatment is safe and appropriate. Depending on your protocol, labs may include:

  • Testosterone markers

  • Safety monitoring labs

  • Hormone regulators

  • Prostate and hematologic markers

Your clinician will confirm exactly which labs are required for your situation.

Testing options

TRT labs may be completed through:

  • At-home lab kits provided by Maximus

  • In-person lab testing (such as Quest Diagnostics)

Your clinician will specify which option applies to you.

Timing for TRT labs

  • Baseline labs are required before starting treatment

  • Follow-up labs are typically completed 3–4 weeks after starting or changing a dose

  • Additional labs may be required before renewals

Completing labs too early or too late may require repeat testing.

Oral vs injectable TRT

Some TRT formulations have different lab timing or consultation requirements. Injectable TRT may require:

  • Additional safety labs

  • A video consultation before prescribing

Your clinician will guide you through any required steps.

Using outside labs

If you have recent labs from another provider, you may upload them. Your clinician will determine whether:

  • The labs are recent enough

  • Required markers are included

  • The results meet protocol standards

Outside labs may not always be sufficient.
