This article covers cancellation rules, refund policies, and what to expect when you stop or change your Maximus subscription. For pause-related billing questions, see Why was I charged after pausing my subscription?. For account credits, see How are account credits managed during subscription changes or pauses.
How Maximus subscriptions work
When you enroll in a Maximus subscription, you agree to one of these term lengths:
Monthly — month-to-month, no fixed commitment
Quarterly (3-month) — billed monthly, fixed 3-month commitment
9-Month — billed monthly, fixed 9-month commitment
Annual (12-month) — billed monthly, fixed 12-month commitment
For fixed-term subscriptions (quarterly, 9-month, and annual), you commit to the full term at signup. Charges apply monthly throughout the commitment period.
Mid-term cancellation
For fixed-term subscriptions (quarterly, 9-month, annual): subscriptions cannot be canceled mid-term once you've agreed to the term. You will continue to be billed through the end of the agreed period, but you can disable auto-renewal so the subscription does not continue beyond the term.
For monthly (no commitment) subscriptions: you can cancel before your next billing cycle to stop future charges.
Refund policy
Medical services, prescription medications, laboratory testing, and consultations are generally non-refundable. This is outlined in the Maximus Terms of Use and applies to all memberships.
Why medical services are non-refundable: Medical services involve clinician time, expertise, and regulatory compliance. Once a consultation or lab order has been completed, the service has already been rendered.
Examples of non-refundable services:
Completed clinician consultations
Lab kits or laboratory testing
Prescription medications
Active subscription periods
Exceptions where refunds may be granted at Maximus's discretion:
When treatment is deemed medically inappropriate after clinical review
For charges incurred after subscription cancellation (such as lab kits or other services), provided the cancellation was processed correctly
If you believe an exception applies, contact support — they can review your account and escalate to billing if eligible.
How to cancel
Follow these steps to cancel your subscription:
Notify your prescribing clinician (if your subscription includes a prescription). Inform them of your decision and provide a reason. This ensures no additional refill orders are placed.
Confirm your cancellation request with Maximus support. Once confirmed, your subscription will be marked canceled. You can log in to your dashboard to reactivate later if needed.
Cancel any active prescriptions associated with the subscription. If medication is delivered after cancellation (because the prescription was still active at the time), discard it upon receipt.
To prevent further charges, cancel before your next renewal date. Changes take effect for the next billing cycle.
What happens after cancellation
No further charges occur once your cancellation is confirmed.
Already-shipped medication that arrives after cancellation should be discarded.
Account credits stay on your account and can be applied if you reactivate later. See How are account credits managed during subscription changes or pauses.
Reactivation is possible — log in to your dashboard at any time to reactivate, and any account credits apply to the new billing cycle.
Auto-renewal
For fixed-term subscriptions, auto-renewal applies at the end of the term unless you disable it. You can disable auto-renewal through your account settings at any time during the term — this prevents the subscription from continuing beyond the agreed period.
Pause vs. cancellation
Pausing and canceling are different. Pausing temporarily halts billing and shipments but does not end the subscription — it auto-resumes at the pause end date. To stop charges permanently, you need to cancel.
For pause-specific billing questions, see Why was I charged after pausing my subscription?.
Billing questions
If you have questions about specific charges, receipts, or subscription changes, contact support. They can review your account, identify discrepancies, and escalate to billing if a refund exception applies.
You can also review your billing history and account settings through your Maximus dashboard.
FAQ
Can I cancel my subscription if the product doesn't work for me? For fixed-term plans (quarterly, 9-month, annual), the commitment remains in effect for the full term and fees are non-refundable. You can disable auto-renewal so the subscription doesn't continue beyond the term.
What happens if I cancel my subscription mid-term? For fixed-term plans, canceling mid-term does not end billing for the current term — you continue to be billed through the end of the agreed term. Disabling auto-renewal stops charges after the term ends.
Can I cancel my subscription immediately after signing up? For fixed-term plans, no — once you agree to the subscription terms, the commitment is binding for the full term.
What if my charge happened after I canceled? Refunds may be issued for charges incurred after subscription cancellation, provided the cancellation was processed correctly. Contact support to review.
Can I get a refund if my treatment was medically inappropriate? Refunds may be granted at Maximus's discretion in cases where treatment is deemed medically inappropriate after clinical review. Contact support to escalate.
Can I reactivate my subscription later? Yes. Log in to your dashboard at any time to reactivate. Any account credits remain on your account and apply to the new billing cycle.
