Maximus now offers both compounded and name-brand GLP-1 medications. Name brand is an additional option — not a replacement for compounded. Both programs are available, and you can stay on compounded, switch to branded, or move between programs based on what works best for you.
What name-brand products are available?
Maximus carries the following name-brand GLP-1 medications:
Wegovy pens (semaglutide, weekly injection — FDA-approved for weight management)
Wegovy HD (semaglutide 7.2 mg, weekly injection — higher-dose option for plateaued patients)
Wegovy oral tablets (semaglutide, daily pill — FDA-approved for weight management)
Zepbound (tirzepatide, weekly injection — FDA-approved for weight management and OSA)
Foundayo (orforglipron, daily pill — first oral non-peptide GLP-1 receptor agonist, FDA-approved April 2026)
Ozempic pens (semaglutide, weekly injection — prescribed off-label for weight management at Maximus)
Mounjaro pens (tirzepatide, weekly injection — prescribed off-label for weight management at Maximus)
Maximus does not carry Rybelsus or Ozempic tablets. Wegovy oral is not the same product as Rybelsus — they contain the same active ingredient but are different products with different doses and indications.
How does name brand compare to compounded?
Both compounded and name-brand GLP-1s contain the same active ingredients — semaglutide or tirzepatide — and carry the same expected side-effect profile. There are no head-to-head studies comparing compounded and branded GLP-1s, so Maximus does not make efficacy claims either way.
Key differences:
Cost: Name brand is more expensive than compounded. See Name-Brand GLP-1 Pricing for current rates.
Plan structure: Branded plans are monthly only. Compounded plans are available on 1, 4, 6, or 12-month terms.
Pharmacy: Name-brand medications are fulfilled through The Pharmacy Hub (TPH). Compounded medications are fulfilled through licensed 503A compounding pharmacies.
Insurance: Maximus does not accept insurance for either program. HSA and FSA cards are accepted.
If cost is the priority, compounded remains the more affordable option. If you specifically want an FDA-approved product or are interested in oral GLP-1 options, name brand may be the right fit.
Eligibility
Eligibility criteria for name-brand GLP-1s are the same as for the compounded program — based on BMI, indication, and contraindications. If you're already a Maximus patient on compounded, go to Manage Orders & Plans in the app to explore switching.
Switching from compounded to name brand
Patients already stable on compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide are generally dose-matched when switching to the name-brand equivalent. Restarting titration from the lowest dose is only needed if there has been an extended gap in therapy.
Compounded semaglutide → Wegovy (pen or oral tablet)
Compounded tirzepatide → Zepbound
Switching to Foundayo always requires restarting at the lowest dose (0.8 mg) regardless of prior GLP-1 history. See Foundayo: What Patients Need to Know for details.
To start the switch, go to Manage Orders & Plans in the app. A provider consult will determine your starting dose on the new product.
Shipping
Name-brand medications ship cold-chain Monday through Thursday only. Expect delivery Tuesday through Friday. Maximus does not ship on Fridays to prevent medication sitting in a warehouse over the weekend.
Common questions
Is compounded going away? No. Compounded continues as a primary offering at Maximus. The name-brand launch is in addition to compounded, not a replacement.
Can I use insurance for name-brand GLP-1s? Maximus does not accept insurance. HSA and FSA cards are accepted.
Will side effects be different on name brand? Same molecule, same expected side-effect profile. There are no studies showing a difference between compounded and branded versions of the same active ingredient.
Can I get a multi-month supply of name-brand medication? Not at this time. Branded plans are monthly only. If a longer-supply option is important to you, compounded offers 4, 6, and 12-month plans.
