State Availability

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Maximus provides medical care through licensed clinicians. Because health regulations vary by state, protocol availability depends on where you are physically located at the time of treatment.

Why Availability Differs by State

Clinicians must be licensed in the state where you are physically present during:

  • Consultation

  • Diagnosis

  • Prescribing

State medical boards set the rules that determine which treatments can be offered in each state.

Some medications have additional restrictions based on state laws or pharmacy rules. Some states restrict:

  • Specific medications

  • Compounded formulations

  • Certain telehealth prescribing practices

Your available options reflect these regulations. Maximus continually expands availability as state rules evolve and licensed coverage grows.

How to Check Availability

Your patient portal automatically detects your location and shows which protocols are available. If a protocol is unavailable, this means:

  • A clinician is not licensed in your state, or

  • The medication cannot be legally prescribed there

  • Certain protocol components are restricted in that jurisdiction

Support can confirm your state eligibility if something seems incorrect.

What If I Move to a New State?

If you move or change your permanent address:

  1. Update your address in your patient portal

  2. Complete location verification if prompted

  3. Your available protocols may update automatically

Some protocols may become available or unavailable depending on local telemedicine regulations.

Prescriptions cannot be shipped until your updated location is verified.

What If I Am Traveling or Out Of State?

Prescribing and renewals depend on the state where you are physically located at the time of the medical decision, not your permanent address. Your clinician must comply with the rules of the state where you are currently located.

If you travel to a state where Maximus is not available:

  • Your clinician may not be able to prescribe or renew until you return

  • You may not be able to receive refills for certain medication based on local and state regulatory laws until you return to an eligible state

  • Early renewals or alternative timing may be possible, but only where / if clinically appropriate

The above applies to both new prescriptions and refills.

APO/FPO & International Addresses

Many partner pharmacies cannot ship to:

  • APO/FPO addresses

  • International locations

If your address falls into one of these categories, Support can help confirm your options and discuss workarounds when possible.

Telehealth and prescribing rules are based on U.S. state licensure and do not extend internationally.
