This article covers the prescription, refill, and progress-tracking workflow for the Hair Improvement Protocol. For information on the medications and what to expect on treatment, see Hair Improvement Protocol: Patient Guide.
Progress photos
Hair growth changes gradually, so visual tracking is one of the most reliable ways to measure progress. Your clinician may request updated photos at regular intervals to evaluate:
Changes in density
Hairline or crown coverage
Shedding patterns
Response to topical or oral treatment
Photos allow your clinician to compare current and previous density, evaluate subtle changes not noticeable day-to-day, and personalize your treatment plan over time.
You can upload photos directly through your patient portal when requested.
Renewals and refills
Prescription renewals depend on your reported symptoms, photo-based progress, any side effects or changes, and clinician evaluation. If updated information is needed before a refill is approved, you'll be notified through your patient portal.
Prescription fulfillment
Depending on your treatment plan, you may receive a topical prescription (compounded formulas like the 4-in-1 Gel), an oral medication (such as oral minoxidil), or a combination of both. Once approved, your prescription is sent to a partner pharmacy, prepared according to your formulation, and shipped to your address on file.
Shipping and tracking
Shipping timelines vary based on the pharmacy and your location. Tracking information is typically provided once your order is fulfilled.
For more details on shipping timelines and tracking, see Prescription Fulfillment & Shipping.
State availability
The Hair Improvement Protocol is available in states where Maximus clinicians are licensed. If your address changes, availability may change. Your account will reflect your current eligibility.
Messaging your clinician
Use your patient portal to message your clinician for questions about your progress, changes in shedding or density, scalp irritation or side effects, or clarification about your treatment plan.
For account or scheduling issues, contact Maximus support.
For urgent or severe symptoms, seek emergency medical care and refer to the When to seek urgent care section in the Patient Guide.
